From 18 February 2027, no battery passport, no EU market.

Electric vehicle batteries, e-bike and e-scooter batteries, and industrial batteries over 2 kWh - including home storage - must carry a digital battery passport to be placed on the EU market. A QR code on the battery, linking to a live record of identification, manufacturer, performance and end-of-life data. If you import or brand the batteries, that duty probably sits with you.

Free check: is your battery in scope?

Three questions from Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 and the European Commission's guidance. Nothing you pick leaves this page.

Answer all three to see where you stand.

What catches importers out

The EU Battery Passport Readiness Pack

  • Scope checker: the three tests (battery category, who places on the market, the 18 Feb 2027 date) worked through for your product line.
  • Data inventory worksheet (Excel): the mandatory data points from the Commission's August 2026 guidance, per category - EV, LMT, industrial - with where each one comes from.
  • Supplier data request letter: asks your manufacturer for the passport data, the responsibility question, and the QR/identifier arrangements - in writing.
  • Timeline to 18 February 2027: registry, standards, guidance milestones, and what to do at each.
  • Compliance checklist: unique identifier, QR code, DPP Registry, CE marking, end-of-life data.

What it is not: templates and worksheets, not legal advice, and not a passport generator. The passport itself is registered in the EU DPP Registry; this pack gets your data and responsibilities lined up before the deadline.

Questions

We sell e-bikes with the battery inside. In scope? Yes - LMT batteries are a named category, whether sold separately or inside the vehicle. The duty sits with whoever places the finished battery on the EU market, so if you import the bikes, check in writing whether your manufacturer is providing the passport.

We sell power banks. In scope? Portable batteries under 5 kg are not in the passport scope for February 2027 (they are an EV/LMT/industrial-only obligation). The rest of the Batteries Regulation still applies to you.

Is this advice? No. It is a worksheet pack built from the European Commission's battery passport page and its August 2026 data-points guidance. Confirm your position against Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 or a qualified adviser.
